Kerala Canteen Welcomes Dishoom to Leeds as the City’s Indian Dining Scene Continues to Flourish

Award-winning Kerala restaurant invites Dishoom guests to enjoy 50% off its signature Kerala spice-infused cocktails and mocktails throughout August.

As Leeds welcomes the arrival of Dishoom, award-winning Kerala Canteen is celebrating the city’s growing reputation as one of Britain’s leading food destinations with a special gesture of Yorkshire hospitality.

Throughout August, guests travelling to Leeds to dine at Dishoom can enjoy 50% OFF Kerala Canteen’s signature Kerala spice-infused cocktails or handcrafted mocktails, available Sunday to Thursday.

Visitors simply need to present a same-day Dishoom Leeds booking confirmation or dining receipt at Kerala Canteen to redeem the offer. Guests who later choose to dine at Kerala Canteen will also receive a complimentary serving of the restaurant’s popular Chai Spiced Ice Cream.

The initiative is designed to encourage visitors to experience another region of India while exploring Leeds’ vibrant restaurant scene.

Celebrating Great Restaurants

Recognised among the UK’s Top 100 Indian Restaurants, both Kerala Canteen and Dishoom represent two very different regions of India while sharing a commitment to authentic food, genuine hospitality and regional storytelling.

While Dishoom celebrates the heritage of Bombay’s iconic Irani cafés, Kerala Canteen proudly showcases the food, spices and traditions of Kerala—India’s south-west coast.

For Consultant Chef Bobby Geetha, Dishoom’s arrival is an exciting moment for the whole city.

“Great restaurants create great food cities,” says Bobby Geetha.

“We’re genuinely delighted to welcome Dishoom to Leeds. The more exceptional restaurants our city attracts, the more visitors we welcome, the stronger our hospitality industry becomes, and the more Leeds is recognised as one of the UK’s most exciting food destinations.”

Inspired by Authenticity

Bobby Geetha has long admired Dishoom’s approach to hospitality and has studied its internationally recognised operational systems, service culture and guest experience.

“Dishoom brought a completely new identity to Indian restaurants in Britain,” says Bobby Geetha.

“They remained true to the culture of Bombay’s historic Irani cafés while creating an exceptional hospitality experience. Every independent Indian restaurant can appreciate what they’ve achieved.”

Kerala’s Story

Kerala Canteen follows a similar philosophy, telling the story of Kerala through authentic regional recipes developed from Bobby Geetha’s hometown alongside Executive Chef Abdulla Khader Allingal Siddique, with whom Bobby Geetha previously worked at the prestigious Taj Group of Hotels in India.

Chef Abdulla also brings experience working alongside Michelin-starred chefs, combining refined culinary techniques with generations of authentic Kerala cooking.

Rather than adapting recipes to suit Western expectations, Kerala Canteen celebrates bold, authentic Kerala flavours using exceptional Yorkshire produce.

This philosophy has inspired signature dishes including the Beef Curry Pie, Kerala Sunday Roast with Curried T-Bone Steak in a Giant Yorkshire Pudding, Trivandrum Fried Chicken, Gunpowder Potatoes, Green Pepper Lamb Chops, Curry Leaf Calamari and the restaurant’s renowned Beef & Bone Marrow Curry.

Behind the bar, Bobby Geetha has created one of the UK’s most distinctive collections of Kerala-inspired cocktails and mocktails, influenced by a career that includes MasterChef UK, Great British Menu, training at Noma in Copenhagen and Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, recognition as Best Indian Chef in Dubai, and international consultancy developing successful Indian restaurant concepts.

A Shared Vision for Leeds

“Bombay has its story. Kerala has its story,” says Bobby Geetha.

“We hope visitors coming to Leeds for Dishoom will also discover Kerala Canteen, just as we hope our guests will enjoy experiencing Dishoom. Together we’re showing that Indian cuisine is wonderfully diverse, and together we can continue putting Leeds firmly on the UK and international culinary map.”
