Comedy Night Leeds: Canteen Comedy Curry Night Comes to Kerala Canteen This September

Looking for a comedy night in Leeds with something a little different? This September, Kerala Canteen is bringing together two things that belong together: live stand-up comedy and great Kerala food.

On Wednesday 30 September 2026, join us at Kerala Canteen in Leeds city centre for our first Canteen Comedy Curry Night — an intimate evening combining Kerala-inspired food, drinks and two hours of live stand-up comedy.

With just 50 places available, this is designed to be a small, relaxed comedy night rather than a large-scale comedy club. If you’re planning to join us, we recommend securing your ticket and table as early as possible.

What Happens on the Night?

Wednesday 30 September 2026

The evening begins at 6:30pm at Kerala Canteen.

6:30pm–7:30pm — Dinner & Drinks

Arrive from 6:30pm, settle into your reserved table and enjoy your welcome Prosecco, Kerala tapas, curry and side.

It’s a chance to relax, catch up with friends and get ready for the evening ahead.

7:30pm–9:30pm — Live Stand-Up Comedy

From approximately 7:30pm, the restaurant turns into an intimate comedy venue for two hours of live stand-up comedy, including an interval.

And because Canteen Comedy Curry Night guests receive 20% off bar drinks, you can keep the evening going with cocktails, beers, wine or mocktails during the interval.

Comedy Night Meets a Modern Kerala Restaurant in Leeds

What makes Canteen Comedy Curry Night different from a traditional Leeds comedy club is the food.

Kerala Canteen is a contemporary Kerala and South Indian restaurant in Leeds city centre, bringing the flavours and social dining culture of Kerala to Yorkshire.

The restaurant is known for its Kerala-inspired tapas and sharing-style dishes, with a menu featuring options such as Beef & Bone Marrow Curry, Kerala-style curries, Trivandrum Fried Chicken, Paneer Pepper Fry and biryanis.

You can explore the Kerala Canteen menu before your visit to discover more of the dishes and flavours behind the restaurant.

Kerala Canteen is also listed among the Top 100 Indian Restaurants in the UK and describes its food as modern Kerala cuisine inspired by the community dining culture of Kerala’s village toddy shops.

Looking for Things to Do in Leeds on a Wednesday Night?

Wednesday doesn’t have to mean going straight home after work.

Canteen Comedy Curry Night has been created for anyone looking for things to do in Leeds on a Wednesday evening — whether you’re planning a date night, a night out with friends, a birthday celebration, a work social or simply want an excuse to enjoy curry and comedy.

You’ll have your own reserved table rather than traditional theatre-style seating, with dinner forming part of the experience.

Once the food is finished, the restaurant becomes an intimate comedy venue, bringing the comedians closer to the audience and creating a more relaxed atmosphere.

Only 50 Tickets for the September Comedy Night

We’re intentionally keeping our first Canteen Comedy Curry Night small.

There are only 50 places available.

That means we’re not trying to squeeze hundreds of people into the restaurant. Instead, we want the comedians to be close to the audience and the atmosphere to feel personal, relaxed and intimate.

The trade-off is simple: once those 50 places are sold, the September event is sold out.

If you already know you’d like to come, don’t leave it until the week of the event.

Meet the Comedy Line-Up

For our first Canteen Comedy Curry Night in Leeds on Wednesday 30 September, we’re bringing three very different comedy acts to Kerala Canteen for an evening of stand-up, crowd work and plenty of laughs.

Daliso Chaponda

Daliso Chaponda

AMANDA HOLDEN’S GOLDEN BUZZER PICK — COMEDY WITH A GENUINELY GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE

Daliso Chaponda shot to national attention as Amanda Holden’s Golden Buzzer pick on Britain’s Got Talent, eventually finishing third, with his audition going on to attract more than 200 million views.

Born in Zambia and raised across Africa, Daliso brings an international perspective to sharp, thought-provoking comedy and perfectly timed punchlines.

His BBC Radio 4 series Citizen of Nowhere received a Rose d’Or nomination across its three series, while his television and radio appearances include QI, The News Quiz and Just A Minute. He has toured the UK to sold-out audiences and also appeared at the Royal Variety Performance in 2020.

This is a brilliant opportunity to see Daliso perform in the intimate surroundings of Kerala Canteen.

Kieran Lawless

IRISH STAND-UP, ENERGETIC STORYTELLER AND ACCOMPLISHED LIVE HOST

Originally from County Mayo and now based in Manchester, Kieran Lawless combines high-energy storytelling, quick crowd work and an intelligent, playful style.

Winner of the Bulmer’s Comedy Competition, Kieran has appeared on RTÉ programmes including The Takeover and New Comedy Awards.

He has supported Patrick Kielty at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre, performed internationally and developed solo shows including The Complete History of Ireland.

Expect stories, observations and plenty of interaction with the room.

Dominic Woodward

NEARLY 2,000 SHOWS — GAGS, BANTER, CROWD WORK AND A LITTLE COMEDY MAGIC

Dominic Woodward has been performing comedy full-time since 2001 and has built up experience across nearly 2,000 live shows.

His performances are highly interactive, combining stand-up, audience banter, gags and daft comedy magic — including his ongoing attempt to break the world record for speed balloon modelling during his set.

Dominic has appeared on BBC Three’s It’s Adam and Shelley and ITV’s Made Up North, while one of his routines went viral online with more than 100,000 likes.

Quick-witted and experienced at working a live audience, Dominic brings another completely different style to the Comedy Curry Night line-up.
